Welland Steam Rally (26th - 28th July 2024)

For me, Welland 2023 was the year's outstanding rally with over 100 engines present and I had awaited the 2024 version with eager anticipation. I was not disappointed.
In 2023 I wrote "I am left wondering why the rally still persists with the 'pay and park' model rather than the near universal 'park and pay' and eschews the possibility of prepaid admission." Well, maybe I wasn't the only one pushing the message and the best news from the rally was that the organisers had listened to us all. Advance tickets had been available for some time and while not much else had changed on Friday, by Sunday, 'Park and Pay' was operating. The result exceeded my expectations and a local resident enthusiast who has a view of the key road from his home told me that there had been no queues at all on the Saturday and there seemed to have been none on Sunday either. The next improvement needed would be the toilets, some of which were in a vile state early on Sunday morning - the ones by the entry gate and just after the working area in particular.
