Welland Steam Rally (26th - 28th July 2019)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2019 introduction and overall index.

As always, the Welland Rally was set to be a really special show. However, while Thursday's road run to the Drum and Monkey at Upton upon Severn saw sunny weather, Friday was overcast and it rained for all of Saturday morning which halted all movement for the day. I do not know what happened on the Sunday, I had always planned to go to Boconnoc should the forecast be favourable and it was as splendid a day as Saturday had been dire...

David Collidge's Steam Scenes website (http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/) is a fount of information and was a great help in compiling these pages.

I have not included a 'Working Engines' page. Steam sawing was undertaken by Advance 14921, and Fowlers 8282 and 8889, with Foster 2728 on the thresher. In the road working area, the Ruston Proctor portable was on the stone crusher and Aveling and Porter 4872 was rolling. With the wet weather, there was no steam ploughing or heavy haulage on the Saturday, neither can occur on the Friday as the field for the first has to be cut and that for the second is occupied by the auction. However, interspersed with the rally ground pictures you will find some of the 25 or more engines that were out and about for the road run on the Thursday.
