Stoke Row Steam Rally, (10th - 11th June, 2023)

This was our fourth visit to Stoke Row and as ever it was a well presented show. It was their 40th and there were rather more engines than before present although I had seen all before. We made no attempt to visit the Wiltshire rally at Swindon on the way there, it was rather warm and not a day to be ambitious. There were no queues to get in this year and I felt that maybe some of those who had had a long wait in 2022 had given it a miss this time around. Like many rallies, the only significant movement was from peg to grand parade and back (probably via the bar tent). Finally, a word for the enthusiastic and competent commentator, so nice to have someone who wasn't almost as old as the engines in the ring,
Afterwards we took the gentle route home along the A417 through a succession of small market towns which are largely 'unspoiled by progress'. As we went west there were signs they had enjoyed a thunder storm, but a few miles before we got home, it became clear that our parched garden had not been so favoured. The blooms on the peonies would last a few more days.
