Stoke Row Steam Rally, (11th - 12th June, 2022)

We had enjoyed our visits here in 2018 and 2019. This time, we arrived later than hoped finding a considerable queue of cars (largely of the Chelsea tractor variety) outside some time after 13.00. There had been an unprecedented attendance which had overwhelmed the entry process - this was acknowledged and will hopefully be sorted for next year. The Grand Parade was coming to an end by the time we got in but I and others were able to do a quick survey close up before the final exit. As before, a number of engines headed straight for the beer tent (including the Sentinel Wagon trio which defied photography) while most of the others went to sleep with their noses directly into the sun. By and large this was not my best visit of all time, trying to do two visits in a day, even smaller ones, is a risky business, I had done quite well at Swindon earlier but only at the expense of missing the best opportunities here. I was happy to have 'collected' two new engines one of which had previously been illustrated by Rod Smith's picture when I managed to miss it at GDSF 2019. Fortunately, collaborator Paul Gilbey has stepped in to provide pictures of the 'missing' Sentinels, 9074 and 9105).
