South Cerney Steam Rally (1st - 3rd August, 2014) |
||
|
This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the seven steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2014 introduction and overall index. A year earlier, the rally at South Cerney was the first large one we had attended. This year there were well publicised issues behind the scenes with the steam section, the result was a slightly reduced attendance and the programme listed barely 2/3 of the attendees suggesting last minute decisions to attend, I don't know enough to comment here. As before, there was a good mix of types, but I feel that the working area was a major disappointment, with just one saw bench present, even allowing for the necessary absence of steam ploughing - at Torbay on the Saturday, a much smaller show produced steam on two saw benches and two threshers. Again, with a little imagination, the engines in the 'playpen' could have been given appropriate loads to break up the monotony. I was more than a little tired after a long trip to Devon the previous day and I was not as diligent as I normally try to be in recording a good set of images of the engines present, in fact we sneaked off soon after lunch time.
