Rempstone Steam and Country Show (9th - 10th, July 2022) |

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2022 introduction and overall index. We had been to Rempstone in 2016 and 2017, the latter visit putting to rights everything that had gone wrong the previous year. It was certainly high time that we returned and we found the rally in rude good health with nearly 50 steam engines, a full list of arena events and a large and appreciative crowd who seemed determined to get sunburned on a fine and warm day. We arrived in time for the tail end of the morning session which then allowed time to take in what was on offer (not the fast food in our case!). It turned out that Sunday had its grand parade an hour later (15.30) than Saturday (14.30). This not only somewhat thinned out the crowd but it also meant that the sun was significantly less high than it would have been the day before. One way and another I scored four new engines which was much the same as Elvaston (3) a week earlier. Not surprisingly 20 of the engines I had seen at Elvaston were here too; with the current fuel prices, few owners will want to fork out a small fortune to move their engines long distances and the current economic situation is such that few rallies can afford to offer them assistance. Like Elvaston, Rempstone is within our 'day trip' limits but for the sake of my mental health we avoid motorways as much as possible and enjoyed s return journey which took us through delightful countryside down the Fosse Way on a beautiful July early evening.
