Netley Marsh Steam Rally (23rd - 24th July, 2016)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2016 introduction and overall index.

Netley Marsh is another rally that normally clashes with our home rally at Marcle, an event which we would hate to miss. However, it turned out that it was actually quite an easy day trip as long as went on the Sunday, the Saturday would have offered better weather but would also have seen heavy holiday traffic. This is an exceptionally well organised event, at times verging on the over organised. There was a full programme of events in both arenas and the working area was impressive. My only gripe was the fact that the caterers had none of sponsors Ringwood Brewery fine real ales on offer in the beer tent by Sunday lunchtime, Hobgoblin was all that was available. As it was there was minimal sunshine, I got most of the engines reasonably well illuminated but ran out of time for the working engine demonstrations. This is a show which will reward a second visit although I am sure the percentage of 'not seen before' engines will fall below this time's 60%, not a surprising figure as the nearest rallies we have been to are at Wiston (East), Torbay (West) and Abbey Hill (North).
