Hollowell Steam Rally (2nd - 3rd July, 2016)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2016 introduction and overall index.

Hollowell was celebrating its 30th show, and the organisers had gone out of their way to bring together as many as possible of the surviving Allchins (built in nearby Northampton), they didn't quite succeed in the numbers they had aimed for, but it was still more than acceptable to see a dozen on site (another had apparently suffered from a failed low loader). On a weekend when at least three other shows had been cancelled following rain, the ground on Saturday was never less than soft and often heavy going. As you will see three engines were left stranded on their transport, there may have been more. With all the extra Allchins, I recorded over  40 road engines. Despite the conditions, there were many punters which gave the place a great atmosphere, no steam engine made it to the ring before we left, but the excellent heavy horse display had spectators two or three deep around. Overall, it was again a great day out, if I could have one criticism it would be the condition of the toilets which could do with a bit of TLC.

David Collidge's Steam Scenes website ( is a fount of information and was a great help in compiling these pages.
