The International Steam Pages

Grand Henham Steam Rally, (21st - 22nd September, 2019)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2019 introduction and overall index.

It's a very long way from West Gloucestershire to East Suffolk, but fortunately we have good friends from our Penang visits who live in the area which allowed us to enjoy a long weekend away and also make some 'cultural visits'. There were 42 engines on display, nearly double the number seen in 2017, partly I suspect because the rally is 'on the up' and partly because there was no Old Warden Rally this year. The rally was blessed with near perfect weather, almost cloudless and with a slight breeze to keep the temperature pleasant. It was extremely well organised save that the arena events overran considerably. I was quite happy about this as the Saturday Grand Parade started at 15.15 instead of the scheduled 14.15 which made for excellent light as I observed the engines entering one by one from a north-westerly direction. I guess the Stunt Team scheduled for 16.30 would have had very few spectators by the time they were allowed to start.
