Elvaston Steam Rally (July 7th - 8th, 2018)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2018 introduction and overall index.

Elvaston was again a medium-large rally which we had similarly visited in 2014 on our way back from Helmsley. We could have been beating on the gate at opening time but instead opted for a civilised start and the show was in full swing with a continuous programme in the main arena as well as the usual other attractions. The two shows made for an interesting social contrast, Helmsley has mainly a rural clientele whereas Elvaston's is more urban. There are no prizes for guessing which proportionately consumes more 'fast food' although in my book no show matches Hollowell in that respect.

Again we were treated to long sunny spells, but we had to wait till 16.00 for the sun to come round far enough for many of the engines to be well illuminated so we were home rather later than I would have liked..
