Driffield Steam and Vintage Rally (13th - 14th August, 2016)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2016 introduction and overall index.

Driffield is a traditional showground based medium sized event which is very much directed to the local area (not least because I saw not a single sign to it). The crowds turned up in numbers and the weather which was intermittently sunny probably suited them more than it did me. It would never be easy to get a good set of pictures here owing to the engines being parked up facing north and only moving for the Grand Parade in the middle of the day and the evening road run by which time the shadows covered most of the route to town. Few of the engines had come far and those which I had seen before had mainly been at rallies not too far away. Yuehong was off seeing old friends in Paris and it was a relatively late decision to visit which I did not regret at all. Having driven up early in the morning, I spent the night in Bridlington which had a lot more charm than Hastings had had the week before.
