Abbey Hill Steam Rally (28th April - 1st May, 2023) |

|
This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2023 introduction and overall index. Our other visits to Abbey Hill (Yeovil) were in 2014 (21 conventional steam road engines on show) and in 2019 (35), 2022 (25), this time the count was 27. In other words, similar to 2022 but without the rain as we went on the Monday and missed the rain on Sunday. There were 2 'new' engines for me which is about average here, The weather forecast suggested the afternoon would be better for photography, we planned our day accordingly with a leisurely start and so it turned out after we arrived at midday. The previous day's rain meant there could be no parade around the ring, instead the engines did a circuit of part of the showground's sealed 'road' system which suited me for a change and kindly the sun made an appearance just as they set off at 14.00 My impression was that attendance at best 'OK', the food outlets looked quiet with their '2023' prices. I didn't have time to inspect the non-steam exhibits but there seemed to be a fair number of traders, one of them, a local, I spoke with was well satisfied, as was Yuehong.
