Preserved Road Steam in Manilla, 2026 |
Eiran Arreola got in contact after he found a preserved Henschel 0-8-0T from Victorias Sugar Mill on Negros in his home town on Luzon. It then seemed a good idea to ask if he knew about any surviving road steam in the country and he came up with this amazing Christie hybrid steam fire engine immaculately restored at a fire station in Manila. That's a traditional steam pumper at the rear coupled with a petrol powered unit which replaced the traditional horse.
In San Diego Gardens, Intarmuros is a rather sad Marshall portable engine which unlike the one above is accessible. 14563 is a potential works number but I do not know if the company added them to castings. It would correspond to a building date of 1886/7.
Only later did I rediscover Thomas Kautzor's picture of it on this site. However, it dates from 2013 at a time when I the dedicated road steam section of this site was in its infancy and it got missed. |
