These were the shiny new tin boxes. At a stroke, the crews' main source of income had been lost because they no longer had any coal to sell. Their customers were equally upset because that supply came at a small fraction of the market cost. I doubt they were greatly mourned when the line was converted to broad gauge. (PM)
