Société de Produits à Parfums de Madagascar (SPPM)
This is at Ampasymenabe 3 km northeast of Andoany (Hell-Ville) on the island of Nosy Bé. The distillery has been owned by the same Indian family from Majunga since it was opened. The factory produces mainly ylang-ylang, vetiver, cloves and lemongrass extract. On display here are two stationary steam engines of different sizes built
by Merlin & Cie., Vierzon (Cher), as well as a small duplex pump by Ateliers Burton,
Nogent/Oise. All three were formerly in use here.
Two years ago the Lemuria Land wildlife park hosting lemurs, crocodiles, turtles and other local wildlife specimens opened next to the distillery, and is one of the island’s major tourist attractions (entrance Ar. 25.000 + tip to the guide). A gift shop selling SPPM products and souvenirs and a café are also on site.
