T. Shore, Stoke-on-Trent, England was never, as far as I know, a major player in the stationary steam engine market, yet many of its engines are found in Burma, the curved section down from the crosshead guide is very characteristic of their engines and it is this feature in particular which allows many 'Cowie' engines to be assigned to this maker, Cowie (of Glasgow) being purely an agent who nevertheless was quite happy to add a number of their own to engines either cast on it or on a plate. Of course, like all agents they were promiscuous and sold engines from other builders too!

This is the only MacDonald engine known to have come from these builders, it is in Bago Division. We saw it working in 2005 but this picture was taken in the 'off season' in 2009:

This is a typical later Shore engine, photographed in Shwebo in 2006.

These two 'engines were photographed nearby in Irrawaddy Division in 2009, the first is more typical with a single eccentric, the second more unusual especially the governor. The curved slope down from the crosshead guide is very characteristic of this builder although some other makers have similar features:

On the other hand this engine in Irrawaddy Division in 2006 has a Cowie plate (their #1520):

The similarity is even more obvious with this Cowie engine (their #999) from Irrawaddy Division in 2006:
