The International Steam Pages

Railways in Peninsular Malaysia ca 1970

I first came to Malaysia in late 1972 when I joined Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang. During the next 6 years, I travelled for steam throughout South-East Asia but I spent relatively little time within my 'home' country as the railways were comparatively modernised.

Fortunately Peter Hodge and John Benson had separately been based here several years earlier when there was significantly more steam activity on the main line and there were quite a number of dieselised narrow gauge industrial railways still active. There are thus two separate parts to this presentation, both divided up by area. Click on the picture or the link for each introduction.
