As the sun rose and gleamed on the copper dome, you knew the early start was well worthwhile. B5220 heads south from Tegal towards Prupuk with Gunung Slamet dominating the landscape, 31st May 1976. As soon as I had taken the photograph, the train lurched on the uneven track and I have a scar to show where my arm got burned on a hot pipe. More than 20 years later, I satisfied a long held ambition and climbed the 3432m high mountain. (RD)
