The Cepu Forestry Railway

After planting, trees are gradually thinned out until only those that will be allowed to mature are left. Finally, these are 'ringed' to kill them and left to dry out naturally. Felling is carried out by hand and the sight of a full sized teak tree coming to earth is spectacular. The resident bats are scattered on 11th August 1988. (RD)
