A CP Locomotive in Need of Help in Brazil

Jose Beraldo reports:

Not too good news this time. This 4-4-0 (built 1872), supposed to be   #1 broad gauge engine of Companhia Paulista, is needing some urgent rescue. After being restored in 1978 for static display at the then new Companhia Paulista's museum at Jundiaí, this John Fowler & Co. product, is now rusting in the former museum's premises, as the museum itself lost all its static displays, which included some rolling stock and locomotives.

The first picture, taken in 1978, shows #1 soon after being put on display and, the second, taken in February, 1997, is showing the derelict status of this remarkable engine. It is still resting at Jundiaí, and nobody knows what will be its future, as the museum was reduced to a display of railroad artifacts, and the premises are in risk of being taken over for other non-railroad activities.
