CFM maintained the Garratt tradition although for some reason they chose not to order any from the originator of the design, Beyer Peacock. This locomotive is one of twelve 4-8-2 + 2-8-4s built by Haine St. Pierre in 1952, a wheel arrangement which was almost universally adopted for later large Garratts in Africa. (BR)
