Finally on 13th June, 409 set off down the track. Progress was slow with many sleepers rotten or missing and often the track vanished beneath the grass. With a start at 05.20, the dew on the track caused much wheelslip and sanders rode on the front of the locomotive but as the sun got up this was no longer needed. (OG)
