Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) ran a superb railway system in a relatively poor Portuguese colony which had seen only the minimum of investment. The pictures of the country show a period just before Portuguese rule came to a sudden end and the country was pitched into 20 years of civil war, the legacy of which lives on today. The locomotives gleamed and the variety of power for the size of the railway was probably only exceeded in the world by Indonesia. (RF) |
