Uruguay Steam 2011

"We spent here only few hours on April 19th 2011. We arrived from Buenos Aires with Pluna flight and taxi to the new railway terminal located few meters from the old station José Artigas (El Libertador) now out of use.

From 16th to 24th April the AUAR (Asociacion Uruguaya Amigos del Riel) organised a steam train with Beyer-Peacock (2-6-0) Nr 120 from 1910 and 2 coaches from 1952. The train ran a short trip (about 10 km) from the new railway terminal to Penarol station (north-east of the capital) to visit the old railway installations from the old district where is still located the AFE (National network) shed.

Despite a turntable and a triangle in Penarol, the train returned to Montevideo tender first.

We also saw old railcars Brill and Shienenbus."
