Baldwin 338

Jose Beraldo reports:

I believe that the greatest of all steam preservation efforts being made in South America is centered in Brasil, despite the reduced role of railways in the Brazilian transportation scenario. Another proof of this is the case for nr.338, a 3 cylinder Baldwin of the former Rede Mineira de Viação, seen on April 1981, derelict at the Barra Mansa (RJ) depot. This engine was completely restored to working condition, and went to the Vale do Bom Jesus railroad but, after this operation closed down, it was transferred to the very active Viação Ferrea Campinas-Jaguariúna, operated by ABPF.

In the second photo,on February 1999, nr. 338 rests idle during a Monday break at VFCJ, where it now heads the passenger trains between Anhumas and Jaguariuna.
