De Bakkersmolen Narrow Gauge Railway, Belgium

Thomas Kautzor reports:

De Bakkersmolen ( is a flour mill, bakkery and restaurant in Essen-Wildert, just south of the border from the city of Rosendaal in the Netherlands. The place also houses  a small railway which runs around the mill, steam museum and two-track loco shed on a small loop.

The 600mm gauge railway is in use on Sundays from mid-April to mid-October from 11.00 to 17.00. The EUR 1,50 fare allows passenger to run four times around the loop. 0-6-0T 1625 (Chrzanow Las-type 3029/1952 with Torun boiler 1625/1953) hauls two Disney-style open bogies coaches. The loco was originally Cukrownia Dobrzelin (CD) No. 17 and was obtained from D. Jans in Kuringen, Hasselt by 07/1991. It's sister CD No. 19 (Chrzanow 3512/1957 with Sosnowiec boiler 15789/1957), as well as 0-4-0WT JOSEPH (OK 40 PS 3136/1908, with boiler 11527/1927, ex Société Belge des Bétons No. 7 MARIE), both previously here, were sold to owners in the U.K., with JOSEPH showing up at the private Richmond Light Railway in Kent recently.

The only other pieces of rolling stock present, stored inside the shed with a steam traction engine, were an unidentified DIEMA Diesel and a flat wagon loaded with firewood.
