The International Steam Pages

Green and Red Road Run 21st June, 2014

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2014 introduction and overall index.

We were meandering back south from the Kelsall Steam Rally, cursing the fickle British weather which delivered wall to wall sunshine all around but not at the rally itself, when I decided to pop into Whitchurch to see if it was an interesting market town. It wasn't really but what was outside the church was another matter, two steam engines and their crews both taking refreshment. Aveling and Porter 8401/1914 'Avellana' and Fowler 17022/1927 were on their way home to deepest Wales from Nantwich and we spent a very pleasant hour or so watching the fun from the sidelines. The stills are definitely 'grab shots' taken when I had enough time left after dodging the other traffic and erecting the video camera on its tripod: Of course things weren't helped by being in a strange area and having no idea where the engines were heading... Not to mention the fact that the engines have different very cruising speeds and soon got separated.

As the last picture shows, sitting duck shots once the video is packed away are much easier...
