Shrewsbury Steam Rally 2017
Working Steam

This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for the Shrewsbury index and click here for the overall index.

This event has always had a strong working area, steam ploughing is shown on a separate page. I had been offered a weekend pass and to return the favour I spent some considerable time with my video camera and in due course the results will be uploaded to my YouTube channel. This got total priority so the still record is largely based on showing the equipment at best idling while I was waiting for the action to start.

Stone Crushing

The Shropshire Mines Trust were again in attendance. A drill, EIMCO 12B rocker shovel and (former steam) winch were running on compressed air. The battery electric locomotive is by Wingrove and Rogers. Power for the Mason stone crusher was being provided by Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies 15609 'Lady Diana'..

Steam Threshing

Foster 14622 'Sir William' was working a Ransomes thresher with baler.

Saw Benches

There were no less than four saw benches running. Ruston Proctor 33189 was working a small bench.

Foster 14410 was working its regular bench

As was Ruston and Hornsby 115100

Advance 14921 was working an enormous saw, the system seemed very prone to overheating, at times it seemed to be burning as opposed to cutting its way through the large trunk.
