Weeting Steam Engine Rally and Country Show (July 14th - 16th, 2017)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2017 introduction and overall index.

With some 60 road engines in attendance, Weeting qualifies as a 'large' rally. What makes this rally stand out, though, is the quality of its working areas with some 20 road engines on display. Sadly, while it hardly rained, the three days we were in the area were almost entirely dull and overcast. I had an hour of part sunshine on the Friday as the show closed which led to some frenetic activity on my part and for those on site there would have been opportunities on the Sunday morning before the show opened. So the photographic record is remarkably mixed, the main line up of engines faces east so the late sun was of no great benefit...

The indifferent weather meant that we chose to go elsewhere on Saturday (Museum of East Anglian Life) and Sunday (Bressingham Steam Museum and Gardens) both of which have traction engine collections and were worthy substitutes for live road steam. I will add separate pages for them later. These three exhibits lined up outside the refreshment tent are all normally based at the Burrell Museum in nearby Thetford and not surprisingly there no less than 25 Burrell engines on display.

David Collidge's Steam Scenes website ( is a fount of information and was a great help in compiling these pages.
