Shrewsbury Steam Rally (27th - 28th August, 2017)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2017 introduction and overall index.

Of the many shows we go to each year, I would guess that Shrewsbury is the most conservative. They have a tried and tested formula and as long as it doesn't rain, the punters turn out in their thousands. This year we were their guests and one inestimable benefit was having access to the non-public car park. To make the most of the opportunity and to allow time to reciprocate the hospitality by taking as much video as possible meant an overnight stay and we found the Premier Inn, Shrewsbury North to be both good quality and value.

However you looked at the forecast we were safe from any rain, but the quantity of cloud was clearly going to be an issue. There was some midday sun on the Sunday which allowed me to catch the Foden agritractor working but generally it wasn't a great day for photography. Monday was expected to be better and it was, eventually, although the morning was a write off. Overall as the pictures show and the video ( will confirm there was enough sunshine to get as good a record as is possible here given the large crowds severely limit engine movement.
