Stationary Steam Engines in Brazil

In view of the number of steam locomotives which survived in Brazilian sugar mills until quite recently, it is not surprising to hear that the mills themselves operate stationary steam engines.

Sergio Martire  writes: "Here are two photos of a stationary steam engine used at Companhia Engenho Central de Quissaman - in the state of Rio de Janeiro - the steam engine was made by Fives-Lille in 1877 and still running today. The big steam machine for the sugar mill is a Fulton-USA made in 1880 ....."

( It must be one of the oldest working stationary steam engines in the World today. RD)
