Sugar Mills in Argentina

Silvia Kaufman of Tucuman, Argentina silviakaufman@arnet.com.ar has sent me these very brief notes:

"I couldn't resist myself so I decided to write you because the pictures reminds me the mills of my place (of course with a lot of differences). I am not from that part of the world but I agree with you that it is very important to preserve and maintain the cultural heritage. I would like to share one of the pictures with you: an inside view of the sugar mill called Cruz Alta (founded in 1824). The small mill is still working. It was the first one founded in my place, in 1824. In the last sugar cane crop, it produced 28.480.500 kg of sugar..."

"On the other hand, this mill, hasn't worked since 1989, it's called San Pablo:"

San Pablo

(And what is that in the foreground????? RD) Martin Murray has since told me it is Cockerill 1261/1882, a metre gauge 0-8-0 ex FC Central Cordoba.
