E1016 was constructed by Esslingen (3989/1920) although others were built by SLM. It was originally Staats Spoorwegen (Sumatra) 116. This 0-10-0 tank locomotive could work normally or with its rack mechanism switched in. The four outside cylinders were all 450 x 520 mm. Driving wheel diameter was 1000 mm. Boiler pressure was 14.0 kg/cm2, grate area 1.9 m2 with a heating surface of 71.6 m2 and a superheater surface of 30.8 m2. Overall weight was 53.5 tons. E1016 is preserved at Taman Mini near Jakarta. In the 1970s, a few of these locomotives survived at Padang Panjang in West Sumatra.
